Del Mar College began in 1935 as Corpus Christi Junior College under the city school district's board, and its first 154 students attended evening liberal-arts classes at Roy Miller High School in 1936. The college moved to its own site on Baldwin Avenue in 1942, earned Southern Association accreditation in 1946, and was renamed Del Mar College in 1948. In 1951 it became an independent junior college district with an elected board of regents, and in 1957 it opened a West Campus on Old Brownsville Road for technical and vocational programs. The college launched its first bachelor's degree, an RN-to-BSN nursing program, in 2021, and its bond-funded Oso Creek Campus on the city's south side became fully operational in January 2023, the first new Del Mar campus in about six decades.
