History
The Museum of the Plains began in 1975 in a single room of the Ochiltree County courthouse and has grown to hold more than 10,000 items tracing the history, paleontology, and archaeology of the High Plains. Perryton itself was formed in 1919 when two railroad-bypassed pioneer villages merged. Exhibits include fossils, arrowheads, a pioneer settlement, a Kiowa village, and finds from the 'Buried City,' a settlement along Wolf Creek dating to about A.D. 1100.
