History

The Weatherford, Mineral Wells and Northwestern Railway was chartered in 1889 and began operating in 1891; the Texas & Pacific Railway bought it in 1902 and extended the line north to Graford. This Romanesque Revival depot, notable for its semi-circular arches and curvilinear brackets, was built about 1903 to replace an earlier wooden depot destroyed by fire. During World War II nearly 430,000 troops passed through it en route to and from nearby Fort Wolters. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
