History

Davidson Cemetery, east of Strawn in Palo Pinto County, was begun in July 1864 on land donated by the Stuart and Strawn families, early settlers and friends of pioneer Joseph Peter Davidson. Davidson had reached the area around 1856 and operated a trading post known as Davidson's Fort. One of Texas's largest and most picturesque family cemeteries, it is enclosed by an ornate Thurber-brick fence erected in 1922, and the Texas Historical Commission placed a marker at its gates in 1978.
