History
The Williams (Old Williams) Cemetery near Beckville in Panola County dates to about 1837, established where pioneers Pervines and John Williams settled west of Fairplay. Among those buried here are John Allison, the county's first judge, and his son Thomas G. Allison, a member of the Texas Constitutional Convention, along with preachers and Civil War veterans. Descendants erected a large marker in 1952, and the grounds preserve a small replica of the early Bethesda Church that once stood at the site.
