History

The State Highway 89 Bridge at the Brazos River near Millsap in Parker County was built in 1934 by Buckner Brothers of Cleburne to a Texas Highway Department standard design, using a seven-panel riveted Parker through truss with concrete approach spans. The Houston Structural Steel Company of Dallas fabricated the steelwork, and members still carry visible Carnegie and Bethlehem brands. It was later carried by an I-20 alignment and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996 as an example of a state-standard through-truss bridge in Texas.
