History

The Colita Church Cemetery is one of two graveyards remaining at the site of Colita, a community in west-central Polk County established around 1840. The place was named for Colita, a well-known Coushatta chief whose people camped in the area and kept friendly relations with the Texans during the Texas Revolution.
