History

The Marfa and Presidio County Museum grew out of the Marfa chapter of the Junior Historians of Texas, started in 1962 by high-school teacher Lee Glascock Bennett. It opened in 1980 in the R.E.L. Tyler home and moved in 1996 to the 1880s adobe Humphris home. Collections cover ranching, Fort D.A. Russell, and the 1956 film Giant, and include 2,200 glass and film negatives by Big Bend photographer Frank Duncan.
