History
The Roberts County Museum in Miami is housed in a former railroad depot erected in 1888 for the Southern Kansas Railway Company of Texas, later part of the Santa Fe system. The town of Miami itself grew from a track-end workers' camp when the line reached Roberts County in 1887. The museum's collections span pioneer documents, frontier firearms, ranch implements, and reconstructed trade shops, and include paleontological and archaeological material gathered by Judge J. A. Mead in the 1930s—among them artifacts from the nearby Miami Clovis site, one of the earliest documented co-occurrences of Clovis points and mammoths in North America.
