History

Franklin Cemetery serves the seat of Robertson County, a town first established in 1872 as Morgan along the International-Great Northern Railroad. A five-acre burial tract was deeded to the county in 1880 as part of an inducement to locate the courthouse at Franklin, though six earlier gravestones predate that date, the oldest belonging to Elizabeth Calvert, who died in 1869. Among its more than 1,300 graves are War of 1812 veteran C.N. Brigance, state legislators, and veterans of every American conflict from the Civil War through Vietnam.
