History
Shiloh Cemetery near Mount Enterprise is one of the oldest burial grounds in Rusk County, dating from the 1853 burial of Maranda Gilbreath on land that settler Josiah Johnson formally set aside as a public cemetery in 1857. Located beside Trammel's Trace, an early East Texas roadway, it holds pioneers, community leaders, and war veterans, with many unmarked graves thought to be those of enslaved people. A traditional Fourth of July cemetery cleaning began in 1876, and the Texas Historical Commission erected a marker in 1985.
