History

The Trammel (Trammel Graves) Cemetery lies about a mile west of the Dirgin community in southeastern Rusk County, just north of the old Board's Ferry Road that once linked Henderson and Tatum by way of Harmony Hill and a Sabine River ferry crossing. Enclosed by an iron fence within a grove of cedars, it holds roughly a dozen graves, only two or three of which remained identifiable in recent decades. Local tradition connects the Trammels buried here to Nicholas Trammel, the frontier ferryman for whom Trammel's Trace was named.
