History
Built in 1919 partly from materials salvaged from an 1882 jail, this San Augustine County jail served the county for more than 80 years until operations moved to a new law enforcement center in 2000; it was named for Sheriff N.L. Tindall in 2002. Restored by the San Augustine Garden Club and local preservationists, it reopened in 2017 as the San Augustine Law Enforcement Museum and was rededicated in 2018. It is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark, a National Register property, and a State Antiquities Landmark, displaying uniforms, weapons, badges, and a Texana research library.
