History
The Columbus-Cartwright House, on the 600 block of South Clark in San Augustine, is a two-story frame Greek Revival dwelling built about 1839 by local architect-builder Sidney A. Sweet for merchant Matthew Cartwright and his family. In 1897 Columbus Cartwright gave the adjoining block on the south side of the street to a church, with the stipulation that room be kept for hitching horses and standing buggies.
