History

The Taft Blackland Museum, formed by the Taft Chamber of Commerce in 1979 and opened to the public in 1986, occupies a two-story red-brick building built in 1923 by the Coleman-Fulton Pasture Company that once housed two banks, a drugstore, and a barber shop. The free museum preserves the history of Taft and the enormous Coleman-Fulton Pasture Company, known as the Taft Ranch, once owned by Charles Phelps Taft, half-brother of President William Howard Taft.
