History
Corinth Cemetery in Shelby County occupies land originally granted to Holmes Byfield, who earned a bounty certificate for Texas Army service in 1838. Settlers arriving from northern Alabama in 1852, among them Francis Wedgeworth, established a community and church that came to be known as Corinth by 1881. The cemetery's earliest marked grave dates to 1865, and it holds burials of veterans from the Civil War through the Vietnam War.
