History

Lone Cedar Cemetery near Joaquin sits on land that was part of an 1841 grant to Josiah White, who set aside two acres for a cemetery and an acre for a school. A church organized in 1892 took the name Lone Cedar after a nearby tree, and the cemetery adopted the same name. The oldest marked grave is that of infant Shannon Thomas McKee, who died in 1874, and the Texas Historical Commission placed a marker in 2008.
