History

The Tyler Rose Museum preserves the history of Tyler's rose-growing industry and the Texas Rose Festival, displaying costumes and memorabilia collected since the first festival in 1933. It stands beside the Tyler Municipal Rose Garden, the nation's largest municipal rose garden, whose 14 acres hold more than 38,000 bushes. The garden traces to a 1938 Works Progress Administration application and officially opened in 1952 with roses donated by local nurseries.
