History

The First United Methodist Church of Troup in Smith County traces its roots to the 1830s and built an early wooden church in 1851 on the site of the present parsonage. A new sanctuary was completed in 1925, reusing elements of the earlier building including furniture, the communion rail, pews, and Venetian stained-glass windows, and the congregation received a pipe organ that same year. The church has served Troup for well over a century.
