It is symmetrical with a slightly projecting central block. The main entry is composed of tripartite squared openings with large windows featuring decorative metal grilles above.

The Starr County Courthouse in Rio Grande City, the county's third, was completed in 1939 at a cost of about $115,000. Architect Stanley Bliss designed the restrained, utilitarian Moderne building, which replaced an 1886 courthouse demolished on the same site. The building was renovated in 1986.
