History

The Old Rio Grande City Cemetery dates to about 1848, making it one of the earliest burial grounds in Starr County. Among those interred at its center are town founder and Mexican War veteran Henry Clay Davis and his wife, Hilaria de la Garza-Davis. The cemetery remained active through the Civil War and holds the graves of several Civil War veterans; the Texas Historical Commission marked it in 2005.
