History
The community of Caddo, in east-central Stephens County, was established in the late 1870s on the site of a former Caddo Indian campsite; its post office opened in 1877. By 1880 it had about sixty residents, two churches, a school, and a post office. The Ranger oil boom of 1916-17 swelled Caddo's population to roughly 1,000 by 1920, and in 1919 it led the state in oil production. The boom faded in the 1920s and the town declined sharply after World War II.
