History

Foster Cemetery began on the ranch land of early Sterling County settlers Robert West and Fannie B. Foster, whose infant daughter Fay became the first burial in 1883. Those interred include R. W. Foster and his brother William Lenard, both members of the first Sterling County Commissioners Court, and Ethel Foster, a president of the Texas Federation of Women's Clubs. The roughly 3.5-acre cemetery, maintained by the Foster Cemetery Association, received a Texas Historical Commission marker in 1984.
