History
Stephen F. Austin Elementary School at 319 Lipscomb Street in Fort Worth opened in 1892 as the Sixth Ward (or Broadway) School, designed by Messer, Sanguinet and Messer in the Richardsonian Romanesque style. Renamed for Stephen F. Austin in 1904, it is the oldest standing school building in Tarrant County and counts golfer Ben Hogan and actress Ginger Rogers among former pupils. The school closed in 1977, and Williamson-Dickie Manufacturing Company bought it in 1980 for use as corporate offices. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 10, 1983.
