History

Edward H. Tarrant (1796-1858) was a Republic of Texas militia general and Texas Ranger commander who led the 1841 fight at Village Creek in present-day Tarrant County and helped negotiate the 1843 Bird's Fort treaties with area tribes. Tarrant County, created in 1849, was named in his honor.
