Throckmorton County Courthouse and Jail

The Throckmorton County Courthouse in Throckmorton was designed by architects Martin, Byrnes & Johnston and built in 1890, an Italianate building whose cornerstone was laid on August 30, 1890 when the county had only about 124 residents; the accompanying jail was built in 1893 by the Pauly Jail Building & Manufacturing Company of St. Louis. Substantially altered in 1938, the courthouse was carefully restored between 2010 and 2015, including removal of later additions and reconstruction of the wooden cupola. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 and is also a State Antiquities Landmark and Recorded Texas Historic Landmark.
