History

Shady Grove Cemetery is a large, well-kept African American burial ground at Shady Grove Church about a mile southwest of Cason, near the Titus–Morris county line. Its exact founding date and founders are undocumented, but local records note it was likely preceded by the nearby Pitt Cemetery a short distance south on the same county road. The chain-link-fenced grounds remain actively maintained by the Shady Grove Church community.
