History
The Texas Medical Association opened its History of Medicine Gallery on the ground floor of its Austin building in 1991, unveiling the first exhibit, "Technology in Medicine: 150 Years of Medical Innovation," on July 26, 1991. Championed by Dr. Elgin Ware Jr., who chaired the association's History of Medicine Committee, the free gallery displays centuries-old archival material and medical relics such as early stethoscopes, bloodletting lancets, and physicians' medical bags. It is located at 1511 Colorado Street.
