The Harry Ransom Center, a humanities archive, library, and museum at the University of Texas at Austin, was founded in 1957 by English professor and future chancellor Harry Huntt Ransom and moved into its current building in 1972. Its collections include roughly 42 million manuscripts, nearly one million rare books, five million photographs, and 100,000 works of art. Public highlights include a Gutenberg Bible and the Niepce Heliograph, regarded as the world's first photograph.
