History

Built in 1959-1961 and dedicated April 10, 1962, the Lorenzo de Zavala State Archives and Library Building sits just east of the Texas Capitol and is clad in the same Sunset Red granite quarried for the Capitol. It houses the Texas State Library and Archives Commission and the state's archival records, including the Texas Declaration of Independence. The building is 257 feet long with five main floors and seven stack floors.
