History

Okewell is a home built in 1925 for Judge Robert Lynn Batts (1854-1935), a distinguished jurist who served as assistant attorney general of both Texas and the United States, as a judge of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and as chairman of the University of Texas Board of Regents. Designed by architecture professor Raymond Everett, the stuccoed house blends Mediterranean Revival and American Bungalow styles and is one of the few remaining Mediterranean Revival homes in Austin. Its marker was erected in 1983.
