History
Sweetbrush, the Swisher-Scott House, is a Greek Revival home originally built in 1853 by John Milton Swisher (1819-1890) with Austin's master builder Abner Cook, standing at the time near Fifth and San Antonio streets on Republic Square. In the 1920s Dr. and Mrs. Scott found the deteriorated house, moved it to its present hillside site in west Austin, and restored and enlarged it. Dr. Scott, a longtime chief of staff at Brackenridge Hospital, helped found the Austin Heritage Society. The marker was erected in 1962.
