History
Believed to be the oldest cemetery in Travis County, Hornsby Cemetery lies at Hornsby Bend, the pioneer settlement founded in 1832 by Stephen F. Austin colonist Reuben Hornsby (1793-1879). The graveyard began in 1836 with the burials of rangers Howell Haggett and John Williams, killed while guarding Hornsby's fort during the Texas Revolution. Reuben and Sarah Hornsby and more than a dozen Texas Rangers are among its several hundred interments.
