History

Comanche Cemetery, on Caldwell Lane in the Del Valle area of southeastern Travis County, is a surviving remnant of the vanished town of Comanche, which was once a rival for the site of the Texas capital before nearby Waterloo (later Austin) was chosen. The community's post office closed in 1902, after which its mail was routed through Del Valle. The old cemetery remains one of the few visible traces of the settlement.
