Old Red Schoolhouse

The Old Red Schoolhouse in Trinity, formally the 1915 Trinity School at 100 West San Jacinto Street, is a Prairie-style, T-plan brick building whose construction began in 1911 under Superintendent J. Woolam Bright and opened after delays by 1915. It housed all grade levels until an adjacent high school opened in 1928 and continued serving lower grades until it closed in 1993, giving "Old Red" some eighty years of use. When it was slated for demolition in the 1990s, former students and citizens worked to save it; it was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 2004 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.
