History

The Allan Shivers Library and Museum in Woodville occupies an 1881 Victorian home originally built by Robert A. Cruse. Governor Allan Shivers, the 37th governor of Texas (1949-1957), and his wife bought the house in 1963, moved it to its current site, and converted it into a museum of their personal and public lives; the entire second floor is devoted to his gubernatorial years. The building, a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark, also houses Woodville's public library.
