History

The Doucette (Black) Cemetery served the African American community of Doucette, a sawmill town in central Tyler County about three miles north of Woodville. The settlement grew after a mill was built in 1890 (first known as Carroll's Switch) and was renamed for lumberman Pete Doucette; at its 1920s peak the town held some 1,800 residents before the mill closed in 1944. The cemetery's graves date to the community's lumber-era decades.
