History
El Progreso Memorial Library was founded in 1903 by members of the El Progreso Club, a group of pioneer women in Uvalde, and is regarded as the first library in Texas west of San Antonio. It maintains the Virginia Wood Davis Archives, serving a ten-county region of Southwest Texas. The library added the Weisman Museum of Southwest Texas, a 1,600-square-foot exhibit space highlighting Uvalde and its surrounding communities, which opened with a show on farming in the Winter Garden region.
