Seminole Canyon State Park and Historic Site near Comstock protects some of North America's oldest rock art, including the Pecos River-style pictographs at Fate Bell Shelter, faceless, elaborately dressed anthropomorphic figures painted perhaps 4,000 years ago. The deeply stratified rock shelter holds evidence of more than 8,000 years of human occupation. To protect the art from vandalism, visitors can view the pictographs only on ranger-guided tours.
