History
The George H. Hauschild Building at 202 E. Forrest Street in downtown Victoria housed the Hauschild music store on its ground floor and an opera house on the upper two floors. German immigrant George Herman Hauschild (1839-1911), who opened his music business in 1891 and the opera house in 1894, presented vaudeville, plays, concerts and silent films there until the theatre closed in the 1930s. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986 and has since been restored as an event venue.
