History

This marker in Pattison commemorates the Texas Western Narrow Gauge Railroad, which the Pattison family enabled by donating right-of-way and land for a terminal in 1877. The line ran the forty-two miles from Houston to Pattison in the late 1870s and shipped cotton to Houston, spurring the town's growth. The railroad ceased operating in 1899, and nearby Brookshire on the MK&T line eventually replaced Pattison as the area's distribution center.
