History
The two-story brick Santa Fe Railway freight depot at 214 South Austin Street was built in 1925 to handle Brenham's cotton shipments and, for a time, passenger traffic. It reflects the town's role as a junction where the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe and the Houston & Texas Central railroads met. Designed by architect Alex Griffin, it is the surviving depot after the shared passenger station was demolished in the 1940s. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.
