History

Ehlert Cemetery is a small iron-fenced family burial ground set between the two forks of Tommelson Creek in the old Cedar Hill community of northwestern Washington County. Cedar Hill was a German settlement, where Henry Eichholt, reputed to be the county's first German settler, farmed before the Civil War, and it flourished from the 1880s until its decline around the turn of the century. By the late twentieth century only three cemeteries, Ehlert among them, still marked the community's site.
