History

Journey's End Cemetery was established in the 1930s to serve Burkburnett's African American community, who were barred by segregation from the city's Memorial Cemetery. The Colored Citizens' League of Burkburnett formed in September 1933 and purchased a plot from philanthropist J.G. Hardin for $100. Long known as the Citizens of Burkburnett Colored Cemetery and by other names, it was renamed Journey's End by members of Providence Baptist Church around 2000, and a Texas Historical Commission marker was placed in 2009.
