History
Captain Nelson Merrell, an early Round Rock settler and former Texas Ranger, had this Greek Revival house built in 1870 by French stonemason Antria Smith for about $1,600. Its 18-inch limestone walls and full-length galleries were designed for the Central Texas heat, and a wooden rooftop cupola is reached by an iron spiral stair said to have been imported from London. The house was listed on the National Register in 1970 and documented by the Historic American Buildings Survey.
