History
The Austin Steam Train Association was founded in 1989 to restore Southern Pacific locomotive #786, a 1916 Mikado-type engine, and ran its first Hill Country Flyer between Cedar Park and Burnet on July 25, 1992 — the first passenger train on that line in 55 years. In 1993 the nonprofit moved into a 16-acre Cedar Park rail yard donated by Texas Commerce Bank and developed with a state grant. Texas's only nonprofit railroad, it operates about 30 vintage cars and two locomotives.
