History

Five families withdrew from the Liberty Hill Baptist Church in 1888 to form this independent missionary Baptist congregation, calling Rev. G.W. Capps as their first pastor. A one-room schoolhouse built on donated land hosted worship for all denominations and took the name Union Hall, which both the surrounding community and the church adopted. A new sanctuary rose in 1924, and early baptisms were held in the South San Gabriel River. The Texas Historical Commission marked the site in 1986.
