History

Episcopal services began in Georgetown in 1865 when Bishop Alexander Gregg and Rev. B.A. Rogers gathered a small group in homes and the county courthouse. Recognized as the Georgetown Mission in 1879, the congregation adopted articles of association in 1881 and built a Carpenter Gothic frame church downtown for about $2,186, the third church erected in Georgetown. In 1954 the wooden building was moved to make way for a new stone sanctuary; the original structure survives today as the Grace Heritage Center.
