History

Allison Cemetery originated in the farming community founded by Elihu Cresswell Allison in 1847 along Willis Creek near Granger in northeastern Williamson County; the first burial was Allison's young child. In the 1970s, ahead of the impoundment of Granger Lake behind Laneport Dam, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers relocated the Allison, Machu, and Beard cemeteries to a new tract adjoining the Granger Brethren Cemetery east of Granger. The move preserved graves that would otherwise have been inundated.
