History
Colonel J. T. Brown, who founded the town of Chico in 1876, built the Brown Hotel in 1888. The hotel later gained notoriety when Governor Charles A. Culberson pardoned Brown on its porch for his role in an 1895 fatal fight, and banker R. Lee Morris owned the building from 1908 to 1965. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Wise County.
